The Rat Gazette - an ode to the rat
The only places on our planet were there are no rats permanently living are the icy cold South and icy cold North.....
Despite that successful spread of the rats over the globe they are probably be the most vilified animals in the world.
The views on the rat are quite opposite from each other. You either love them or you hate them. So little seems to be in between. We know them as spooky little creatures that move around in the dark and spread diseases and spoil our food. On the other hand we know them as funny playful pets. I photographed the rat throughout Europe, Asia and North America to research and documented the rat’s image and our relationship with them.
Rats play a more important role in our lives as we might think. Therefore I want to put in the spotlights. That is what the rat deserves. Not only because we learn from them, benefit from them and enjoy them in more ways as we think but also because they are normal creatures of nature with their special characteristics. They matter to us and deserve our special attention.
That special attention is The Rat Gazette. The book shows not only the rat pest control but also rat worshipping and the use of the rats as research object, laboratory animal, show animal, police inspector, food and as art.
